Dublin (part 1)

Thursday: Met with Dad and his colleagues Dick and Jeroen and flew off to Dublin. Quickly to the hotel, dumped our stuff and walked into town. The hotel was in the middle of "Georgian Dublin" (Ballsbridge) and it took us about 20 minutes to get to the city center. We used the first day to get our bearings and start sampling the local brews like Guinness, Kilkenny, Harp and Smithwick's. Upon arriving at Dublin Castle, the Gardai (police) were just putting fences everywhere since Ireland just became chairman of the European Union. Unfortunately we couldn't go in to see the treasures of the castle. Instead we went to a library /slash/ museum with very interesting exhibitions about the origins of books/writing and various religions. Next, a quick stroll through Temple bar (the pub area) and onwards to the Northside of the river Liffey, over Ha'Penny bridge. Dinner was indian cuisine and we ended day one with a few drinks in the hotel bar.

To be continued...
