Pet peeve

Directed to no one in particular.

It's "tomorrow" not "tommorrow"
It's "disappointed", not "dissapointed"
It's "rogue", not "rouge"
"There" is somewhere else, "Their" belongs to them, "They're" is what they are.
"It's" that box, I closed "its" lid.

Feel free to add to the list.

Here's the LJ icon of a friend of mine, Lynmars.

That good?

That very good.

More examples pop into my head:

Very, not verry
awesome, not awsome
waist vs. waste

How about:

'Being pregnate'
And then there's ellipses.

... is an ellipse.
Or to put it differently.
Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

So, three full-stops. Not .. or .....
Also, people should consider using a single period or a comma instead of leaking them all over the place. Imagine that... if every ellipse... every one... is a pause... in the way I am talking... It's worse... than Kirk...

And then I go consistantly using ellipse instead of ellipses. :/

I often make these mistakes:

"separate", not "seperate"
"each other", not "eachother"

Should of. Would of. Could of. GAH!

And a Hungarian pet peeve: abusing the -val/-vel (≈with) suffix. Has recently become a fad... the rule is that v assimilates if the last sound of the word is a consonant, effectively doubling the length of said sound. If you tack it to a symbol or a word with an awkward spelling, attach with a hyphen. Thus... méter (=meter): méterrel, but for m, the abbreviation of meter, it will be m-rel. Further on: alma, almával (apple); körte, körtével (pear); három, hárommal, 3-mal (three).

So how do people do this these days? m-el, 3-al. GAH!
