Cheetah power!

The cool thing about my company is that it likes to support charity. Valori annually sends a cheque to Net4Kids (an organisation that supports education in third world countries), but every employee gets a 'free' day each year that they can take to be a volunteer at a project of their choice. So one day per year you can go work at your local animal shelter or help out at your local Salvation Army branch and still get paid for that day.

Now, not everyone in the company is so inclined to do actual volunteering work. Those people can donate their day to a colleague who wants to help 'their' charity for more than one day, OR they can vote at the end-of-year charity poll. In october, everyone in the company can suggest a charity of their choosing as long as they're personally and/or actively involved in said charity. The people who make a suggestion get their own webpage on the company Wiki to promote 'their' project and in november there's a 2 round poll for every employee who hasn't spent or donated their charity day. In round 1 all suggested charities take part and employees can vote for their favorite project. The top 2 charities go on to round 2.

Here's where it gets interesting. In round 2 there's only 3 charities left: Net4Kids (our 'adopted' charity) plus the 2 winners from round one. Now everyone gets to vote again, but this time the votes are worth an x-amount of money. The more votes a project gets, the more money it gets from the company's 'charity pot'. People who don't vote while they are eligible see their vote automatically being cast for Net4Kids.

So why am I telling all of this? Well, I suggested a certain charity (guess which one ;))and tomorrow is the final day of round 1. And here's the current results. Remember: the top 2 charities go on to round 2 for the money.

Keep your fingers crossed.
