Mom

The family BBQ was a great success, but it took a lot out of mom. She'd already been unwell during the week with pain in her stomach, no appetite, backpain, but regardless she put on her brave face and faced the family, staying busy with serving and cooking to keep everyone happy and to forget about her discomfort.

Last night, she hardly slept, coughing and wheezing all the time. This morning, the first thing she did was go to the nurse station to give blood for analysis. Around 1pm she called the doc for an urgent visit, fearing gallstones. She returned home with suppositories (dutch: zetpillen) to battle the nausea. A little later she sat down next to me and voiced her concern about not being taken seriously by the doc. And so I spent the rest of the afternoon in the E.R. waiting room of the local hospital while mom got a full check-up. In the end, all of her fears could finally be laid to rest. Nothing wrong with gall, kidneys, blood or urine. The docs managed to rule all the really bad things out, coming up with the analysis of a viral infection in her stomach. We walked out with a prescription for exactly the same suppositories the first doc had prescribed. Better safe than sorry, we both agreed.

She went to bed right after a very light dinner. I really hope she'll manage to get a full night of sleep tonight. It'll be the first in a full week.

Viral infections can get nasty.
About all we get here is,"Rest and drink lots of water."
Hope she gets over it quickly.

*hugs you* I'm sad to hear your mom hasn't been doing very well... but I'm glad she doesn't have anything serious. Hopefully she'll get well soon.
