Happy Newyear

Hey everyone, all the best for 2008, may it bring more good luck and less Bad Things than 2007. I'm afraid I have to admit that the last few days of 2007 weren't very good for me. I managed to get over a cold (well, almost), but seem to have traded it for an earinfection. It stings all day and I can only barely sleep. That rather influenced by behavior last night. I was invited to a bunch of damanique's friends, and while we certainly had fun playing Guitar Hero 3, stuffing ourselves with homemade snacks and watching the fireworks, right after midnight my ear really started to act up. I tried to make the most of it a little longer, but in the end I threw the towel into the ring and went to bed around 1.30am.

Today, I reluctantly had to put Dama on the train instead of driving her home. I'm in bed now, trying to get some more rest and hoping that the pain will subside slowly. If not, I'm calling in sick again and trying to get a doctor's appointment ASAP. I'm really sorry that I was a little out of it at the party. If only I can make the pain bareable by friday when Dama and I will be driving to Maastricht for a LAN weekend.

I just slept five hours with my 'bad ear' to the pillow. Now I'm awake and it's only gotten worse. My left eardrum seems to have turned 180 degrees so my left ear now hears nothing from the outside, but everything from the inside, mostly a dull hummmmmmmm and a soft throbbing in synch with my heartbeat. Every time when I yawn my eardrum makes a crackling noise like crumpling up a newspaper-page, with a few added stings of pain for effect.

Any hope I had of this being minor and curable with some sleep has been shot to hell. I'm not gonna clean the ear with water, for fear of there being a perforation in said eardrum. You don't want water on the inside, especially not if it just passed a truckload of bacteria on the way. I hope I can last until 8am when the doc is open for business again. Otherwise it's the 24-hour medical station in the next village, but they charge bigtime.
