Holiday, the aftermath

And after two weeks of not working, I'm ... err .... at work again. Had a great time in Maastricht, had a magnificent time in Belfast with my gracious hosts _graywolf_ and ringtailed. Yes, holiday report and pictures will follow once I've tackled the mother of all laundries and the mother of all photo-sortings. I won't dump 600 pics onto you all :)

Highlights included: Zomeravonden festival, Mergelroute, Gaiapark Kerkrade, family BBQ, Shankill Road, Titanic quarter, Carrick-a-rede Ropebridge, Giant's Causeway, Bushmills distillery, pints of Harp and Ulster fry.

As much luck as I had with the trip TO Belfast, that much BAD luck I had with the trip FROM Belfast. Tough security check, even having to take off shoes and belt. Not enough money on me for a drink at the airport. Plane departed at the farthest gate from the shopping and waiting area. Packed plane. Plane landed on airstrip that was farthest from the terminal in Amsterdam (almost 15 minute 'drive' after landing!), arrival gate was genuinely the most remote of the entire Schiphol complex (15 minute walk from gate to baggage claim!), my bag was the LAST one to roll from the conveyor belt, vending machine at Schiphol ate my money but didn't give a drink in return. Luckily the train to Leiden and the taxi home were comfortable and on time. Oy vey. Monday was a full day in Zombie mode, so no groceries or washing, only playing Viva Pinata. It was all my brain could handle.

Feel a lot better today, so tonight I'ma gonna get me some work done. Wash, wash, wash, sort photo's, post photo's and with a little luck: write report.

Amsterdam - Belfast: Aer Lingus. No problems whatsoever, decent gates and all.
Belfast - Amsterdam: Easyjet. And that's when I discovered that the most remote gates at Schiphol are the ones for the low-cost airlines.

Yeah, I'd heard about that, also from my inlaws. I think they went to Spain on one of those airlines not long ago and they were also sent to the remote ass end of the airport to board their plane. :P

Good to hear you had a fun trip :D

So did I! In fact... all the things you mentioned on the return flight seem familiar. I had to take off my shoes and jackets and show that I didn't have any pockets, couldn't bring any drink on the plane... the plane landed at terminal D53 which is like WAY back and a really long way from the baggage claim. My baggage wasn't last in though, but the conveyor belt got stuck for like 10 minutes... still, nothing for me to complain about. I love flying so much and that includes all the logistics with its ups and downs.
